On Thursday, 7 May 2026, our Sales Manager, Matt Allan and Customer Services Manager, Mark Hiscocks joined a sold-out room at the Waipuna Hotel in Auckland for the annual Floor NZ Apprentice of the Year Awards, run in conjunction with BCITO.
The turnout was outstanding, and so was the energy — comedian Ben Hurley kept the evening moving and left the room with a catchphrase that stuck: “We’re Flooring It!!”
Behind the fun is a serious achievement. Apprentices work through three levels of training over three years to reach qualification, and the awards recognise both their effort and the employers who back them along the way. Jeff Henry and his team at the Christchurch training school continue to do outstanding work with their students, and the standard on show this year reflected it.
Carr New Zealand was proud to contribute a Leister Triac AT flooring kit as the prize for Apprentice of the Year. It went to Scott Hines of Flooring Xtra Wellington, who took out the Level 3 Apprentice of the Year title and was named overall winner for 2026.
